GradingGraded assignments consist of two quizzes, one task, and two reports. Because you must use print-based cataloging tools to complete some quiz questions, quizzes will be made up of in-class and take-home components. Please be prepared to complete the take-home section of the second quiz within the limited period of time allotted. Quizzes will be graded. On weeks 2 through 10, the professor will present lectures on organization of information subtopics, e.g., descriptive cataloging, choice and form of entry, metadata encoding, subject cataloging, etc. Related to the discussions will be ungraded assignments that require you to do original cataloging and metadata assignment. These assignments build on previous ones so please do not fall behind. Additionally, the instructor may assign ungraded cataloging tasks that are related to class discussions and lectures. You can do tasks and assignments on your own or with two or three partners. Record your answers in writing. We will discuss assignments and tasks in class so be prepared to volunteer your experiences, deliberations, reactions, and opinions. Because tasks and assignments will not be collected or corrected by the instructor, please pay attention to and participate in class discussions, correct your course assignments and tasks, and take notes. Quizzes will be based on everything connected with the class including ungraded weekly cataloging tasks and assignments so do not fall behind on completing the ungraded cataloging assignments from weeks 2 through 10 and the ungraded tasks throughout the semester. Two reports will be assigned during the semester, one on Indexing and a second on the Dublin Core. Reports will be graded. Both are group projects so work with two other SI 666 students on them. Group membership can be different for the two reports. Completion of peer evaluation forms are required for each. Failure to complete one or both peer evaluation forms results in an incomplete (I) grade for the course. With regard to the distribution of final grades, students above the median will receive A or A-, and those below the median will receive a B+, B, or lower. The table below lists deliverables, due dates, and maximum estimated points given. At a later time, the instructor may change the points based on her assessment of the work effort put into deliverables. |
